BRIEF OUTLINE: Students write letters about what they want for Christmas. This activity has an interesting twist.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Coloured paper

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. After going over Christmas vocabulary with the students, hand out the coloured paper to the students for their cards.
  2.
This is where you can get creative. You need to choose what the students should put into their cards. It should be addressed to Santa and they should say something they want. Anything else is up to you.
  3.
Try to convince the students that it is possible that they will get what they want. Do anything you can to convince them, even lie.
  4.
Most of the students don`t know the formalities of the card. Make sure they write on the right hand side and the card opens from the left to right. May as well teach them the formalities.
  5.
Let the students draw a picture on the front of the card from the vocabulary you taught them.
  6.
    Take in all the cards.
  7.
Read the cards and take a tally of all the things the students want for Christmas. Google image them and print out stamp sized photos of all the items. On the corner of the students cards staple a picture of what they wanted.
  8.
Hand the students their cards back.
    1.

VARIATIONS:

  • The next class make them write a thank you note.
  •

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • Really convince the students they will get what they want. Be convincing.
  • Bring in a big bag when you hand back the cards.
