BRIEF OUTLINE: Students write Christmas cards using SVOO! What could be more fun!

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • ChristmasCards attachment: Enlarge 1-2 example cards with a message written inside to show the class.

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

    1. Using gestures and realia, elicit from the class, “I will give you a pen.”
    2. Write on the board, “I will give you a pen.”
    3. Create a substitution table (see below) on the board by writing in new verbs below ‘give’ and eliciting a new secondary object.
    4. Give a Christmas card to your JTE, they read the card and say "thank you!"
    5. Have JTE read his/her card again, elicit the message from the students (reading again if necessary) and write it on the board.
    6. Show students the ‘Christmas cards’ handout.
    7. Instruct students to cut out the cards and write a card to each person in their lunch group. Do not color the pictures!
    8. Divide the class into lunch groups.
    9. Hand out the handouts and start.
    10. When students finish writing, tell them to color in the pictures.
    11. Students exchange cards and say thank you.
